AsianFin -- AI chip giant Nvidia announced late Sunday that it will manufacture its first AI supercomputer entirely in the United States, marking a major reshoring move amid growing geopolitical and trade tensions.

The project will feature Nvidia’s Blackwell AI chip, which it says will become the most powerful AI chip ever produced domestically.

Over the next four years, Nvidia will collaborate with TSMC, Foxconn, Wistron, Amkor, and SPIL to build up to $500 billion worth of AI infrastructure across the U.S., the company said.

Blackwell chip production has already begun at TSMC’s Arizona facility. Nvidia will also break ground on its first U.S. factories, co-developing supercomputer production plants with Foxconn in Houston and Wistron in Dallas, targeting mass production within 12 to 15 months. Packaging and testing will be handled by Amkor and SPIL, also in Arizona.

For the first time, the engine of global AI infrastructure is being built in the U.S., said CEO Jensen Huang, emphasizing improved supply chain resilience and the ability to meet surging AI demand.

Nvidia joins other tech leaders like Apple and Qualcomm in accelerating U.S. manufacturing amid renewed tariff threats from President Trump. Apple has pledged $500 billion in U.S. investments, including AI chip production via TSMC and a new AI server factory in Texas.

TSMC, which is investing over $100 billion in the U.S., plans to build five fabs in Arizona, with $65 billion already committed. Trump previously warned TSMC it would face 100% tariffs if it didn’t manufacture in the U.S.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the U.S. will soon impose new semiconductor-specific tariffs, signaling a shift away from reliance on Southeast Asia for critical tech supply.

TSMC will report Q1 earnings on Thursday, with analysts forecasting a $10.74 billion net profit.
